About Us

Mortise Concrete
Since 2008 Mortise Concrete has been passionately producing individually designed and hand crafted polished concrete countertops and products of the highest quality for our customers' homes, offices and commercial interiors. From our beginnings, our goal has been to deliver excellent design, quality craftsmanship and outstanding value.
At Mortise we believe the process of creating exceptional concrete countertops begins and ends with a close and careful understanding of our clients desires and functional requirements. Only by combining this understanding with our commitment to quality and craftsmanship can we then create a truly bespoke countertop or product that fits perfectly to your vision.
We are passionate about polished concrete. It is an environmentally friendly, natural, exceptionally beautiful and durable material. Versatile in design, colour and finish, it will last a lifetime. From our fully equipped studio in Battersea, we are perfectly placed within easy reach of London's architectural and design community. We would be equally as happy to carry out work on projects nationwide.
Our Products
Our polished concrete countertops offer a feeling of bespoke individuality not found in many of the solid surface materials more widely used today.
Your commission is always custom built because we hand craft all of our concrete formworks to create your piece.
A wide range of concrete colours and textures can be achieved using aggregates and cement dyes and it can be finished in a number of ways such as polished, matt or with exposed aggregates. The finished product is hygenic and non porous therefore making it as robust as any of its rivals. The versatility and durability of polished concrete makes it stand out above any other solid surface.
Manufacturing
The entire process from templating to installation typically takes from 4 to 5 weeks. For most concrete countertops we will visit your jobsite, take detailed measurements and create templates in a similar fashion to that of most other stone products.
We then translate these templates and specifications into high quality moulds to produce a perfectly smooth surface to almost any shape or size. All of our moulds are manufactured in our studio by our team of skilled cabinet makers in a controlled environment, which is a crucial part of the curing process.
The concrete countertops are always poured off site in our studio and never in your home or commercial property. Allow two to three weeks for forming, pouring, polishing and sealing and then the polished concrete will be ready for installation.
Design
With our background in architecture and furniture design and making we are a creative team who would love to be a part of the design process with you.
Come to us with your ideas, describe your vision and we will bring that vision to life. We will work from your drawings or sketches or we can design something ourselves to your specifications.
Being a small studio we work on just a few projects at any one time thereby ensuring that your piece will receive all of our energy and creative flair.
Installation
Once the concrete countertops have been cured, sealed and polished we will contact you to arrange a delivery and installation date that is best for you.
On that day our team will arrive, carefully unload your concrete countertops and install them to the exact specification we agreed at the time of templating. Most residential jobs will take one to two days. Larger projects can take longer, but we will always give you an estimate before arriving.
After the concrete countertops are secured in their final place we will give them one clean and seal. This ensures you have a perfectly polished countertop, ready for you to use and enjoy.
